Welcome (or Welcome Back) to Unlocking Travel!

If you’re new to the site, welcome!  And if you’re one of our long-time readers who is checking out the site’s new look, welcome back! We’re the Keys – we have a passion for traveling, and we love to share that passion with others.  When we visit a destination, be it one that is completely new to us or one that we’ve travelled to countless times, we go to great lengths to plan it out well in advance – and we’ve found that we love helping others do so as well.  We both love photography (although Karen is definitely the better photographer of the two of us), and I (Dallas) love writing in my free time.  When you combine our favorite pastimes, starting a blog seemed like the perfect way to do all three!

To tell you a little about ourselves, we met at Austin College – a small liberal arts school in Sherman, Texas.  Our time at AC very much shaped who we are today, but one thing that AC tends to instill in almost everyone that attends is a passion for travel.  Karen studied abroad for a Summer in Spain, while I took classes in London and Paris, and competed in Model United Nations in Xi’an, China.  Our favorite time studying abroad, however, was the course we took together in Rome in 2009.  While there, I actually proposed to Karen in front of the Trevi fountain, which we followed up with a trip to Florence and Venice!

We got married in 2012, and have traveled as frequently as possible – some of our favorite destinations are Disney theme parks (both Disneyland and Walt Disney World), Las Vegas, and any destination that is all-inclusive and on a beach.  Our biggest adventure yet, however, happened in 2019 with the birth of our daughter Lily.  We’ve since tried to instill that same love of travel in her, and she loves visiting new places, but if you’re keeping track at home, something in particular happened in 2020 that kept us from traveling as much as we’d typically like. Since then, we’ve figured out ways to continue to visit new places, while also exploring our own “backyard” in the Dallas/Fort Worth, Texas area as well!

We’ve loved sharing our experiences so far, but there’s so much more to come – we’re excited to bring you along as we discover new places, revisit old favorites, and hopefully pass along some tips along the way. Thanks so much for taking the time to visit our site – sign up at the bottom of this page to get a notification when we post our next review or update, and feel free to reach out/comment. We’d love to hear from you!
